I thought I could finish one of them quickly and post an update, but I just haven’t had the time to power through them like I thought I would. Sakura Taisen 3 I haven’t played in a week and while I do play Stranger of Sword City every day, it’s only for about 15 minutes at a time. SOSC reminds me why I don’t usually replay games, at least not so quickly: I get bored! Especially on New Game+ where all the maps are open and laid bare in a dungeon crawler where half the fun is exploration. No good, no good. If I delay any longer I’ll end up not finishing it at all, so I’ll try to carve out bigger chunks of time this week since I’m almost done.
What keeps me going is that I skipped all the bonus dungeons last time and I’d really like to explore them this time and pick up some good loot ahead of a possible third playthrough in a year or two after the expansion pack “New Interpretation Sword City” comes out. Ahhh, I want to quit playing both games and start something new!!!!! But no, I’ll be disciplined and stick things out (plus all the “something new”s I want to play are on the late lamented 3DS anyway) so this has been your obligatory “I’m still alive and still playing games” post. Happy Mothers’ Day!
Ah, they’re going with Vita only with the new expansion then, that’s a bit disappointing. Guess it’s really time I get a Vita…
It’s too early to conclude that. Since they’re set on milking SoSC for all its worth it wouldn’t be too hard for them to sell a 2.0 patch for PC/XBox. But still it’s really time I got a Vita too. All those other dungeon crawlers/Atelier games aren’t going to play themselves.
Yeah, it is. There are some other random stuff such as Caligula, Phantasy Star, Severed, tons of VNs etc. Not to mention, now that the device is an utter failure, it will probably get extremely cheap (vita tv on amazon sometimes goes for less then $30). Cmon, that is like a beer pack and a few kit kats!
I’ve got my eye on Caligula because I’ve enjoyed everything else I’ve played from FuRyu (more or less). Phantasy Star should go without saying, though I’ve heard mixed reviews. And on and on and on. Vita TV I considered, but finding time to play stuff on my TV is hard for me these days. Plus since it’s discontinued in Japan, chances are newer games won’t be compatible and I don’t want to buy a Vita TV AND a Vita down the line.
ehy kina, granblue fantasy is having a collaboration with sakura wars so if you play right now you can get some sakura wars character into the game like sakura and gemini into the game, if you are a sakura wars fan now might be a good time to give a try to the game
the event last for 10 days by the way
Oooh… Umm… Okay, I guess I’ll start it now. I read up a bit on it and it sounded rather confusing but the Sakura Wars collaboration sounds nice. But why a collaboration with a game series that hasn’t had a new installment in so long? Hmm…
Well, collabs of more obscure stuff in a more current game probably draws a lot of people with nostalgia and potentially even encourages them to go discover the older games for a lot less effort than actually creating a new game.
(Comparatively speaking because I thought they put quite a bit of effort into this compared to the usual collab like getting the VAs back for new lines… maybe they already had them handy for Project X Zone 2 though)
I suppose it MIGHT end up happening anyway – Kid Icarus had like just a NES game before he got put into Smash 4 and this eventually lead to him getting a 3DS game but I wouldn’t hold my breath in this scenario because Sega seems kind of incompetent at fulfilling their niche fanbase wishes (like creating an ARPG Valkyria Chronicles when people just wanted another SRPG installment)
Well they managed to draw me in at any rate, so it works.
apparently it’s the 20th year anniversary for the series and they wanted to celebrate
it might be hard for a new starting player to get strong enough to get ALL of the characters (erika is probably the hardest one) so you might want to read better how the game works here or at least spending some time doing the halo dungeon in order to make your equipment/character stronger
reading this guide will make understanding the game mechanic a lot easier

I’m actually not that interested in getting all of them TBH. These games are always designed so it’s hard for you to get everything without paying, and what’s more whatever cards you get in this event will be overshadowed by the cards in the next event and so on. I just figure now’s a good time to jump in when there’s something moderately interesting going on.
Thanks for the link to the guide!
I jumped in like one day before this so I’m not particularly an expert but there are 3 recruitable characters and you can definitely get 1 and most likely will keep 2 but I might be underestimating the time needed.
Sakura – You recruit her just by opening the event, just that the catch is that she has a “loyalty” bar that you have to fill up if you want to KEEP her after the event. All you got to do is use her in battle to raise it though and there’s still like 8 days to go so I think this is probably very achievable?
Gemini – Beat all the event stories to recruit, there’s 3 (Sakura, Erica, Gemini) with 4 parts each so it’s really fast to do if you’re strong enough which probably shouldn’t be an issue because they also have a 1.5x EXP thing going on right now.
Erica – This one is the hardest because it requires you to farm items that only drop in the event quests and trade for her so I hope you don’t like her that much if you’re playing casually.
Sakura’s the one I like best out of those three anyway so it’s cool that she’s so easy to get. I’m not going to stress myself out getting virtual items in a virtual world.
