Gamer’s block is when you have a lot of games on your backlog but you don’t feel like playing any of them. And at the same time, nothing new is attracting you. And yet you don’t want to quit playing games either. Last time I experienced this, I solved it through “No Game November,” which gave me a fresh boost to my love of gaming.
This time, I’m not going to do that… or am I… nah. It’s one thing to feel too lazy to game. It’s another to ban yourself. IT’S PAINFUL! So anyway, this blog isn’t actually dead, I’m just lazing around for a bit before getting into something new again. Not to say I haven’t played anything at all recently. Apart from the usual casual games, I played:
–Sanrio Characters Picross. I love Picross. I thought I would be fine with any kind of Picross as long as the puzzles were fun, and for the most part that was true. But TBH when you neither know nor care about the characters in the pictures you unlock, it’s a bit… hollow? Empty? If you like random cutesy characters and/or Hello Kitty, you’ll probably enjoy this a lot more. But it’s good enough to scratch my Picross itch so that’s good enough.
Dragon Quest 7 – No, I haven’t dropped it yet. Not playing it very enthusiastically, but it’s still on the cards. The depressing storylines and repetitive gameplay have taken a greater toll on me than expected. I won’t do another post on it until I either drop it for good or finish it, whichever comes first.
Tokyo Xanadu eX+ – I recently tried to pick it up again after going through a lot of trouble to hook my PS4 controller to my laptop. In hindsight it’s not that difficult, but it required a lot of googling various solutions and buying a bluetooth adapter, blah blah. My hope is that more familiar controls will make it easier to go through action RPGs on my laptop/TV. Only problem is, I’ve totally forgotten all the controls for Tokyo Xanadu eX+. I’m going to have to run through a few earlier dungeons to get my groove back before moving on with saving a certain character who will certainly wait patiently at the end of the dungeon no matter how long I spend dilly-dallying outside. I love video games <3
Others
Other games I was hoping to start soon, but can’t work up the energy: FFXIII, God Eater Resurrection, Harukanaru Toki no Naka de, Sakura Wars 4, Ys Seven. Most likely I won’t play any of these but will start something completely different when I’m done with the games above. Etrian Odyssey Untold: Millenium Girl is already begging for a comeback…
So that’s what I’ve been (not really) working on in October. Next update will be when I finish something or get sufficiently far into something new, just don’t hold your breath.
No big deal, really. I mean, I’m suffering from the exact same thing right now! Heck, maybe there’s something in the water? (Or in the air, as the French say.)
All jokes aside, we’ve been playing games and writing about them nearly non-stop for years now. I think it’s perfectly normal to experience gamer’s block once in a while. Let’s take it easy, our gaming mojo will come back in due time!
Take care! ^__^
Will it really, I wonder. There are so many good games out already that don’t excite me. If I’m not moved now, when will I ever be?
That said, as you said we just have to take it easy and go with the flow.
…or do we? I just had the radical idea of taking the opposite approach and starting a bunch of games all at the same time, in case something catches my fancy.
…but I can’t even muster the energy for that, so that’s that.
the feeling gamers get when they are stuck on a very hard level or impossible puzzle. usually results in gamer quitting for a few days until he cheats or reaches an epiphany . person 1: Screw this game; i have been stuck on this level forever. i am never going to play it again person 2: calm down you just have a case of gamer s block.
Ehehe, I think I’m person 1… Nowadays I don’t have any patience for anything too difficult. I play to de-stress so if the game itself causes stress, *toss*
